Polk Sanitary Milk Co. Sunlight Plant, 1913

Description: Delivery horses and carts of the Polk Sanitary Milk Company are lined up along the railroad tracks that bordered the Sunlight Plant for a 50th anniversary photo. The milk company was owned by James T. Polk and was located on E. 15th and Lewis Streets. When it opened, it was considered to be the most modern and advanced of its kind in terms of both quality and efficiency. These delivery carts were manufactured by the John Guedelhoefer Wagon Company, founded in 1873 by John Guedelhoefer. Peoples Cement Warehouse is visible and a number of spectators, including children and people on bikes, view the scene.
