Indiana State Fish Hatchery, 1920

Description: This view of a state fish hatchery was taken in 1920. The location is unknown but may have been the one near Riverside Park in Indianapolis. According to a newspaper article in 1920 there were five state fish hatcheries in Indiana. Those named in the article were Bass Lake, Trilakes, Wawasee, and Riverside. The Department of Conservation was using scientific methods to propagate black bass in the state fish hatchery ponds. In 1920 the Riverside station hatched over one million bass fry.
The original nitrate negative was copied with funds provided by a grant from the National Historical Publications and Records Commission in 1990. This digital image was created from that copy. The copy prints and negatives are stored in Microfiche Number order. Interpositives are stored in PAN number order.
