DePauw University S.A.T.C. Greencastle, Ind. Dec. 1918

Description: In May of 1918, during WWI, the government began formation of the Student Army Training Corps (S.A.T.C.) at DePauw University. Students were inducted into the S.A.T.C. with government paid tuition, lodging, board, and a monthly allowance, plus uniforms and military gear. In November 1918 the flu epidemic hit the campus and the men were quarantined and women students were sent home. With the signing of the Armistice on November 11 the war was over and the S.A.T.C. program was demobilized on December 14. This group of students is assembled about the time the program ended. They are seated on bleachers in their military uniforms, some hold rifles, and some have band instruments.
The original nitrate negative was copied with funds provided by a grant from the National Historical Publications and Records Commission in 1990. This digital image was created from that copy. The copy prints and negatives are stored in Microfiche Number order. The Interpositives are stored in PAN number order.
