Description: |
A group of men from the Indianapolis Kiwanis Club are seen here at a picnic held at the J.I. Holcomb Estate. The Indianapolis Kiwanis was founded in 1916 and was the first Kiwanis Club in Indiana. The group provides aid for social programs to help children. The J.I. Holcomb estate was located on the northwest side of Indianapolis in the town of Spring Hill. It was bounded by 44th Street, White River, 42nd Street, and Cold Spring Road. The town featured homes of executives and professionals and was built on the bluff overlooking White River. James I. Holcomb was a successful businessman and lived at 44th and Cold Spring Road. This image was probably taken in his back yard. The original nitrate negative was copied with funds provided by a grant from the National Historical Publications and Records Commission in 1990. This digital image was created from that copy. The copy prints and negatives are stored in Microfiche Number order. |
