Description: |
Group portrait of the Murat Gatling Gun Squad posing with rifles at order arms on the front steps of the Indiana State Capitol in Indianapolis. The professional drill team, originally known as the Boys in Blue, was organized in Indianapolis in the late 1890s and used Gatling guns in their drill exhibition. The group, also sometimes called the Hoosier Zouaves, dissolved in 1910. That same year William Law, a former member, formed a zouave drill team of Shrine members who were known as the Gatling Gun Squad. When the organization was opened to social membership in 1919, the name was changed to the Gatling Gun Club. |
