21st Annual Ben Hur Congress, Circa 1915

Description: Group portrait of the Supreme Tribe of Ben-Hur in front of Knights of Pythias building in Terre Haute during their 21st Annual Congress. The fraternal society in honor of the Lew Wallace novel was incorporated in 1894 in Crawfordsville, Indiana with the blessing of the author. The organization was started by two insurance agents and was inclusive of women from the beginning. In 1930 it became the Ben-Hur Life Association and lost the name Ben-Hur in 1988 when it became the USA Life Insurance Company of Indiana.
