This is Lt. John Lovells books of general orders for the transport of troops from Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, to Fort Adams, Mississippi in from April 1-December 31, 1798. This handwritten book of almost 200 unnumbered pages contains dated entries of military activities, records, and events along the Ohio River through parts of the Northwest Territory. Places mentioned along the Ohio River include Pittsburgh (Pennsylvania), Fort Washington (Cincinnati, Ohio?), and Fort Massac (Illinois). Places mentioned along the Mississippi River include Chicksaw Bluffs (Tennessee), Fort McHenry (?), Natchez (Mississippi), and Loftus Heights (now Fort Adams, Mississippi). Names of regiments, officers, and soldiers are included in the entries. Entries in the book are recorded at camp and aboard a ship named Kitty. |
