William Croghan, Fort Pitt, to Colonel William Davies, Commissioner at War, Richmond

Description: Croghan, a prisoner on parole, first requests to be exchanged so that he may join the Continental Army. Croghan then explains how the Pennsylvania militia, led by Colonel William Crawford, inadvertently attacked and killed a town of Moravian Indians, and relates the story of Crawfords torture and death at the hands of a band of avenging Delaware Indians as witnessed by Dr. Knight. Lastly, Croghan mentions that both Colonel Harrison and William Crawford, a relative of Colonel Crawford, were taken prisoner by the Shawnee and therefore survived their captivity.
