Description: |
Old Settlers Day was held annually on July 4th beginning in 1980 and celebrated the communitys pioneer heritage. The one-day event took place primarily on the square in downtown Corydon and featured people in pioneer costume demonstrating pioneer-era techniques in building, cooking, sewing, hunting, and other activities. Pioneer era games, music, and dancing also were an important aspect of the event. In addition, a reenactment of the Civil War Battle of Corydon was often presented. The popular festival was extended to two days in 2002 and renamed Old Capital Days. It continues to be a popular event on the square and is held during the first week of July. The photographs in this collection are from the July 4, 1985 Old Settlers Day. No one in the photographs has been identified.
