Description: Maurice Griffin in his later adult years. Born in 1873 to Patrick and Helen Porter Griffin of Corydon, Indiana, he was christened William Maurice but was always referred to by his middle name. In 1897, Maurice joined his father and siblings in the purchase of a local dry goods firm and began business on the Corydon town square as Maurice Griffin & Co. The store was in the same location where Maurices father and uncle had operated a similar business under the name of Griffin & McGrain in the 1860s. Griffin dry goods store remained at this same location until its closure in 1983. Maurice married Charlotte Rupp in 1909.
