Description: |
Olive Griffin, seated at left holding a guitar, looks toward her sister Mary Jane (Jennie) Griffin, who stands looking out the window. The women are in the east parlor of their family home, the Porter-Griffin house, located on East Walnut Street in Corydon, Indiana. The sisters lived most of their adult lives in the family home in which they grew up. The two-story brick dwelling was built in 1817 and served as the residence and headquarters of Governor William Hendricks from 1822 to 1825. From 1841 through 1975 it was home to three generations of the Porter and Griffin families. The State of Indiana now owns the property, which is open to the public as a historic site. |
