Helen Griffin OLeary in her Chicago apartment

Description: Helen Elizabeth Griffin OLeary (1881-1950) in her apartment in Chicago, Illinois. Helen was the sixth child of Patrick and Helen Porter Griffin of Corydon, Indiana. As a young woman she moved to Chicago to pursue a career in art. A gifted seamstress and designer, she found employment with Marshall Fields & Company, where she eventually became head of the corset department. After marrying Mark B. OLeary in Chicago in 1906, Helen became skilled at hand painting china, and later pursued landscape and portrait painting and attended the Chicago Art Institute. Following her husbands death in 1948, she returned to Corydon, Indiana, where she remained until her death in 1950.
