Roadblock Highway 64, police stopping vehicles

Description: Indiana State Police stop vehicles traveling on Highway 64 in June 1941 to conduct a traffic survey. Assisting the policemen are Edgar L. Miles of the Indiana State Toll Bridge Commission, seen at far left, and Wood G. Smith of a St. Louis engineering firm, at the right. Miles and Smith planned and directed the survey which consisted of five questions to determine whether or not a proposed bridge over the Ohio River near Mauckport and Brandenburg would be of benefit to the community and would be used by travelers. The survey was made at various checkpoints along State Highways 150, 135, 64, and 31. It was conducted for over 50 hours during a week in June 1941. Survey results showed that many more vehicles would use the proposed bridge than the minimum required to pay for it.
