Marshall E. Rinker, Sr.

Description: Marshall Edison Rinker was born in Cowan, Indiana (located 7.5 miles south of Muncie) in 1904 and attended Ball State 20 years later when it was named Ball State Teachers College. After he graduated, he moved to Palm Beach County (Florida) in 1925. He made his wealth by becoming the largest producer of ready-mix concrete and block in Florida. Mr. Rinker was Chariman of the board and Chief Executive Officer of Rinker Materials Corporation from 1926 to 1988. He endowed a scholarship to Ball State University for a student who wishes to study abroad, and eventually the Ball State University Rinker Center for Global Affairs was named in his honor.
