Description: |
Held at the Muncie Fieldhouse (Muncie, Ind.). Transcribed from Community Christmas Festival program, 50th anniversary : The first Muncie Community Christmas Sing took place on Sunday evening, December 18, 1935. Mrs. J. Cooper Props was in charge of activities for the Works Progress Administration (WPA) program. This program was headed by Walter H. Fisher. This department of a Depression-born agency was inaugurated as a means of providing recreational opportunities for people who had no money to provide entertainment or recreational activities for themselves. Many Muncie citizens were in such circumstances during this era. Mrs. Props and many others worked miracles in creating worthwhile activities on the lowest of budgets. The Christmas Sing was one of these activities. This archival material has been provided for educational purposes.
