Description: |
Established in 1921 for the residents of the Martindale-Brightwood community, the park was named for James Thomas Vastine Hill who was one of the first black attorneys admitted to Indiana Bar Association (1886) and served as a deputy prosecuting attorney for Marion County for four years. The park covers 10 acres, located at 1806 N Columbia Avenue. The JTV Hill center was opened in 1961 as a family center but donated to the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department for the Police Athletic/Activities League after several years. A major renovation was undertaken in 1997. This archival material has been provided for educational purposes.
