1890s womens house dress

Description: Well-worn overdress made of brown fabric with small white polka dots. The dress is long-sleeved and floor length. The skirt is gathered with cartridge pleats at the waist seam. Four rows of wide pintucks embellish the hem. The bodice of the dress has a wrap-style closure that is missing fastenings. There are two pockets inserted in the skirt seams. The body of the dress is very faded and a number of patches and repairs have been made. Likely this was a work dress that would have been worn over an under-dress.
