Wright start : celebrating 100 years of flight

Description: Join the Smithsonians National Air and Space Museum for an anniversary like no other. Celebrate the occasion by visiting the Museums new exhibition: The Wright Brothers & The Invention of the Aerial Age. The exhibition will mark the Wright brothers invention of the airplane with an imaginative presentation of their technical achievement, paired with the cultural impact of human mechanical flight in the first part of the 20th century. During this electronic field trip, students will meet Orville, Wilbur, and their sister Katherine Wright in period costumes to find out more about this remarkable family. Then students will explore the brothers unique approach to solving the problems of controlled human flight. The program concludes with activities that center upon the music, art, and writings that reflect the cultural response to flight during the first decade after its invention.
