Aaron Thomas Dooley

Description: According to findagrave: Aaron Thomas Dooley (June 28, 1832 - November 7, 1908). In 1850, the only Dooley who was the right age in the census records and born in Kentucky was a young man listed as a 17 year-old blacksmith named Thomas Dooley in Franklin County, Kentucky. He was the son of Thomas S. Dooley who was apparently widowed. The other children were: Martha, age 19; Logan, age 16; and James, age 13.On November 21, 1852, Aaron married Elizabeth A. Dooley in Hendricks County, Indiana. Elizabeth was the daughter of Moses and Elizabeth Dooley who were in Marion Township, Hendricks County in 1850. Aaron and Elizabeth had two children: Nancy E. who was born about 1854 and Mary I. who was born about 1856. Elizabeth passed away between the birth of Mary and 1860.On June 28, 1860, Aaron married Malinda West. She is listed with him (as Aaron) in the 1860 census which was taken on August 18. Also listed were his two daughters, Nancy, age 6, and Mary, age 4. They were in Marion Township, Hendricks County. His occupation was blacksmith.Aaron Thomas Dooley enlisted in the Union Army as a 2nd Lieutenant on October 11, 1861 at the age of 29 (birth date June 28, 1832) with a commission in Company C, 51st Indiana Infantry Regiment on December 14, 1861. His residence when he enlisted was in New Winchester, Indiana. He was promoted to Full 1st Lieutenant on June 30, 1863 and discharged on March 12, 1865.In 1870, Mary was still living with Aaron and Malinda as she was still just 14. Aaron (listed as Thomas) and Malinda had two of their own children by then, Levi, age 4, and James, age 1. They also had a daughter named Lurena, probably after Levi, but Lurena died in 1867 and is not recorded in any census record.In 1875, his daughter, Mary, married Augustin Thompson, but passed away before the 1880 census. Her widower was living with Aaron and Malinda in 1880. Aarons occupation was listed as farmer. He and Malinda still had Levi and James living at home. They had 4 more children over the last decade: Lilly R, age 7; Ira L, age 6; Daisy A, age 4; and William T, age 1.Indiana Birth records show a daughter born to Aaron and Malinda on July 26, 1882. Her first name is not on the record. It may have been Elizabeth. A son, Virgil, was born on August 6, 1884 and died on January 20, 1896. He shares his mothers gravestone.Malinda died on March 31, 1895. Aaron married Anna C. McCormack on April 14, 1896 in Hendricks County. Anna was twenty years younger than Aaron.Aaron and Anna had a 14 year-old named Ethel M. living with them in 1900. Ethels obituary confirms that Malinda was her mother.
