Lincoln Memorial near Arlington Bridge. Completed in 1922. It is 257 feet long and 187 feet wide and 99 feet high. It is of white Colorado marble with Indiana limestone for inside walls. The huge 19 foot statue of Lincoln is centered in the direct middle. On the north wall, is inscribed Lincolns Second Inaugural Address, while the south wall has his immortal Gettysburg Address. On the outside are 36 huge columns commemorating the number of states in the union at time of his death. Inscribed above his statue is In This Temple As In The Hearts Of The People For Whom He Saved The Union, The Memory of Abraham Lincoln Is Enshrined Forever. Date 06/00/1955. |
