George L. Schwartz was appointed by the Board of Safety as a Second Lieutenant at Fire House No. 2, 436 East Wallace Street in January 1913. Sixteen firefighters were made either a first or second lieutenant, these men were to be in charge of the fire house in absence of the captain, they were not paid for this new rank. Date: 1913. |
