REYNOLDS SISTERS

Description: Reynolds Sisters --- Arlene and Alice Reynolds were old maids who lived on Central Avenue. It was said that Alices beau was Ross Murchland. They said he was her true love so when he didnt come back from the war; she never married. Murchland died of pneumonia during WWI and was buried in France. A flagpole was erected at the corner of Main (Townley Road) and South Street in his honor. When the Townley Road became Highway 101, the pole was removed. Arlene was a school teacher who taught many years at Monroeville. Alice worked at a jewelry store in Colorado for a time. I (Lois Ternet) took this picture of the sisters as they were standing under the overhang of Clems Market watching the parade. As they got up in age they always stood shoulder to shoulder, kinda holding each other up. I also remember they put in a storm shelter (fallout) in their back yard on Central. I always thought of them like the sisters of John Waltens mountain.
