[Civil War diary of Henry Andrus, 95th Illinois Infantry, September 1864-August 1865].

Description: The Civil War diary of Henry Andrus, Co. E, 95th Illinois Infantry, was loaned to The Genealogy Center for scanning. The Center is so honored that the owner entrusted us with this special piece of history. The pocket diary, typical of a number of Civil War veterans, was in very guarded condition at the time of scanning. Hence, in scanning this diary, extra care was taken not to stress already worn pages or further damage an already deteriorating spine. That care caused some of the pages to scan at an angle and some writing to be a little less clear in the bound margins/gutters of the diary. In reviewing the images, though, we found that most every entry could be discerned nearly in its entirety. The journal begins with January 1865 and runs through August 1865, when he was discharged and sent home. The journal then goes back to September 1864 and continues through December 1864.
